Connecting to the auxiliary I/O interface

The Matrox 4Sight GPm unit has an auxiliary I/O interface, composed of
16 independent auxiliary signals: 8 which can be used to receive up to 24 V inputs
(which include TTL inputs), and 8 which are NPN (sink-driver) outputs.
The auxiliary I/O interface does not support isolated I/O signals. Each signal is
referenced to the Matrox 4Sight GPm unit's electrical ground, which is also
common with the chassis ground.
Connecting external devices to the output signals
of the auxiliary I/O interface
Your Matrox 4Sight GPm's output signals can be interfaced with input modules
(both NPN and PNP) found on most programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and
other devices. The output signals can also be interfaced with inductive load devices
(such as a relay or a small motor) and TTL devices.
The Matrox 4Sight GPm output signals are NPN open collector (sink driver)
outputs. The power source must be provided externally because
Matrox 4Sight GPm output signals are not capable of providing voltage to drive
a device; when "on"; the output signals only ground the connected circuit. The
diagram below depicts a typical connection to an external device and the
Matrox 4Sight GPm's internal fuse.
