14 Chapter 1: Before you begin
With regards to data flow management:
- The Matrox 4Sight GPm (Ivy bridge)'s Intel processors use the Intel Platform
Controller Hub (PCH) HM76 Express chipset for data flow management; the
chipset includes specific PCIe interfaces including I/O control as well as display
outputs. The PCH HM76 Express chipset provides better communications
(faster and more intelligent) between the CPU and the PCH than previous
technologies combined with better feature management. provides control for
both I/O and display.
- The Matrox 4Sight GPm (Bay Trail)'s Intel processor uses the system on chip
(SoC) for data flow management. The SoC actually includes the CPU (Intel
Celeron J1900 processor) and GFX cores along with I/O, display, PCIe,
memory interface, and storage interface ports (such as SATA) in a single chip.
While more taxing on the CPU than dividing these features amongst a full
chipset, the SoC provides a lower-cost solution with better power management.
• Display. The Matrox 4Sight GPm motherboard has two video output ports which
allow you to connect either two digital display devices or one digital and one analog
display device to Matrox 4Sight GPm.
In addition, the Intel integrated graphics controller supports 32-bit (true-color)
non-destructive graphics overlay onto live video, for a completely true-color
display.
• Mini-PCIe slot. The Matrox 4Sight GPm motherboard has a connector for a mini
PCIe 2.0 board.
• Auxiliary I/O interface. The auxiliary I/O interface is composed of 16
independent auxiliary sink-driver signals; 8 of which can be used to receive
application-specific user input, and 8 of which can be used to transmit
application-specific user output.
• Networking. Matrox 4Sight GPm integrates Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and
Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. Each Gigabit Ethernet
interface supports 10 BaseT, 100 BaseT, and 1000 BaseT. Matrox 4Sight GPm
(Ivy Bridge) has 4 PoE and 2 Ethernet ports, whereas Matrox 4Sight GPm (Bay
Trail) has 2 PoE and 1 Ethernet port.
