a. Loosen the locknut "1".
b. Adjust the spring preload with the special
wrench included in the owner's tool kit.
c. Turn the adjusting ring "2" in direction "a" or
"b".
Direction "a"
Spring preload is increased (suspen-
sion is harder).
Direction "b"
Spring preload is decreased (suspen-
sion is softer).

TIP
The spring preload setting is determined by
measuring distance "c". The longer distance "c"
is, the higher the spring preload; the shorter dis-
tance "c" is, the lower the spring preload.

d. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque.

CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL LEVEL

1. Stand the vehicle on a level surface.
TIP
• Place the vehicle on a suitable stand.
• Make sure the vehicle is upright.
2. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then turn it off.
3. Check:
• Engine oil level
The engine oil level should be between the
minimum level mark "a" and maximum level
mark "b".
Below the minimum level mark
recommended engine oil to the proper level.
Recommended brand
YAMALUBE
Type
Full synthetic SAE 10W-40 or
15W-50
Recommended engine oil grade
API service SG type or higher,
JASO standard MA
ECA13361
NOTICE
• Engine oil also lubricates the clutch and the
wrong oil types or additives could cause
clutch slippage. Therefore, do not add any
chemical additives or use engine oils with a
grade of "CD" or higher and do not use oils
labeled "ENERGY CONSERVING II".
• Do not allow foreign materials to enter the
crankcase.
