Learn about media family calibration
During the media family calibration the printer calculates the differences between the measured
values and the target (output profile) values for each of the C, M, Y, and K channel colors. At the
time the output profile was created, the CMYK values calculated by the output profile exactly
matched the measured Lab values of the colors that were printed on the media. The calibration
curves that the media family calibration creates will compensate for the identified differences.

(
These curves compensate for the difference between the measured ink amounts during the
calibration procedure and the values expected from the output profile. The measurements during
the calibration procedure represent the actual color behavior of the printer.
The printer creates per media print mode different calibration curves for the front and back side
of the media. The first media family calibration calculates the maximum output density of the
front side and the maximum output density of the back side. The lowest value of both densities
becomes the target value for both sides during all next calibrations.
Calibration charts
The media family calibration wizard informs you how you must perform the procedure. The
media family procedure prints calibration charts on target media. The charts represent the actual
color behavior on the front side and the back side of the media. The calibration chart has solid
patches (100% CMYK) and patches with varying tones of CMYK.
