How to Install
NOTICE
Use mains cables of equal length ( ±10%) and the same
wire size for all 3 phases on both rectifier sections.
Screening of cables
Avoid installation with twisted screen ends (pigtails). They
spoil the screening effect at higher frequencies. If it is
necessary to break the screen to install a motor isolator or
motor contactor, the screen must be continued at the
lowest possible HF impedance.
Connect the motor cable screen to both the de-coupling
plate of the frequency converter and the metal housing of
the motor.
Make the screen connections with the largest possible
surface area (cable clamp) using the supplied installation
devices within the frequency converter.
Cable-Length and Cross-Section
Keep the motor cable as short as possible to reduce the
noise level and leakage currents.
Switching Frequency
When frequency converters are used together with sine-
wave filters to reduce the acoustic noise from a motor, set
the switching frequency according to the instruction in
14-01 Switching Frequency.

NOTICE
In motors without phase insulation paper or other
insulation reinforcement suitable for operation with
voltage supply, fit a sine-wave filter on the output of the
frequency converter.

5.4.4 Shielding against Electrical Noise

F-frame Size Units Only
Before mounting the mains power cable, mount the EMC
metal cover to ensure best EMC performance.
NOTICE
The EMC metal cover is only included in units with an
RFI filter.

5.4.5 External Fan Power Supply

Frame Sizes E and F
In case the frequency converter is supplied by DC or if the
fan must run independently of the mains supply, an
external power supply can be connected via the power
card.
The connector located on the power card provides the
connection of line voltage for the cooling fans. The fans
are connected at the factory to connect to a common AC
line. Use jumpers between terminals 100-102 and 101-103.
If external supply is needed, the jumpers are removed and
the supply is connected to terminals 100 and 101. Use a 5
A fuse for protection. In UL applications, use a LittelFuse
KLK-5 or equivalent.
