Reassembling the plunger
To reassemble the plunger:
1.
Place the two halves of the ball retainer around the ball on the plunger.
2.
Slide the spring over the ball retainer. The spring holds the ball retainer
together.
3.
Lubricate the end of the ball with a lithium-based grease like
Lubriplate™.
4.
Insert the plunger into the piston.
5.
Slide the washer, then the snap ring onto the plunger.
6.
Position the plunger insertion tool over the snap ring and washer.
7.
Press the plunger insertion tool, forcing the snap ring, washer, and
spring inside the piston.
8.
Squeeze the snap ring with snap-ring pliers, simultaneously pressing on
the tool's central area. This forces the snap ring into the groove near the
end of the piston.
Seat the entire snap ring in the groove in the piston. Otherwise, it

can spring out of position when you release the pliers.
9.
Remove the pliers and plunger insertion tool. The snap ring remains
firmly in place when it is positioned correctly.
10. Start the pump, and set the flow rate to 3.0 mL/min to retract the
plunger. Run the pump until the plunger is fully retracted, then stop the
pump.
11. Replace the piston cap by pressing it into position on the end of the
piston.
12. Replace the head support assembly and indicator rod.
The support assembly's orientation is correct when the indicator rod

is to the right of the assembly, and the number is on top.
13. Alternately tighten the four screws. Do not overtighten. The support
assembly need only be flush against the front panel.
14. Gently slide the pump head onto the plunger. Ensure the indicator rod is
in the correct hole. Alternately tighten the two screws.
