VHF Audio Connection
Connection between the Audio Module and a VHF source is dependant on the type of VHF
source:
A Simplex VHF source will connect to Input 1 (Channel 1).
A Duplex VHF source will connect to Inputs 1 and 2 (Channel 1).
There is no buzzer connection when connecting a VHF source.
Line level output will connect to the +, - terminals of the Audio Module.
No shield connection is made to the audio module
The interconnections required for the VHF are similar to those described in Section 8.3:Audio
Connections.
NOTE: The Audio Module when installed without a DAU, must be grounded to the ship's hull. See
Section: 8.3: Audio Connections above.

Audio Configuration
To capture audio recording correctly, the audio capture settings are configured in hardware and
software.
8.4.1
VDRPARAMS.INI File
Several entries in the [AUDIO] section of the <vdrparams.ini>file reflect the number of bridge
audio channels and radio channels to be recorded. The <vdrparams.ini> file is located in the
C:\WINDOWS directory of the DMM internal hard drive and may be accessed via the shortcut on
the desktop. The following terms explain all the entries found in the [AUDIO] section of the
<vdrparams.ini> file:
blocks =60 always set to this number (effects data file size);
ChannelEnabledX = 0 or 1. This parameter shows whether the applicable channel is
enabled or disabled.
=0 disabled
=1 enabled
NumOutputChannels = 4, gives the number of audio output channels to be stored on
the FRM (this is set to for a value from 1 – 8);
OutputChannelX shows the number of Output channels after software mixing;
Note: Only first 4 Output channels will go to the FRM. Channels mixed in software will be
next to each other separated by a coma such as: OutPutChannel2 – 2,3.
numVHFChannels gives the number of channels connected to record radios, PA
systems, bridge telephone, etc;
VHF-ChannelX shows the channel(s) on which the radio(s) are being recorded;
MikesOnMixerX gives the number of microphones on each microphone channel;
DetectionThresholdX gives the number calculated during installation testing, in order of
the lowest MIC input to the highest MIC input number;
ChirpLength = 30 gives the chirp length setting—should be set for 30 ms;
MikeRetryInterval gives the wait period for the retrial of a failed mic test—should be set
for 3600 seconds, which is 1 hour;
MaxMikeRetrys =11 gives the number of times the system will retry before declaring a
MIC error alarm— Always set for 11.
The number of channels sampled by the VDR-100G3 is set in the NumOutputChannels field of
the .INI file. The system will activate the first N input channels for which the ChannelEnabled
field is set to 1.
