11 OPERATION AND ALARM UNIT TEST
AND USER GUIDE

OAU System Overview

The Operation & Alarm Unit (OAU) provides a visible and audible alarm when it receives an
error message from the VDR-100G3. This visual and audible alarm alerts the ship's officer on
watch of any detected failure.
In an emergency incident, the OAU allows the operator to secure the previous 12 hours
of recorded data.
NOTE: The user should secure this data within 12 hours of any incident to
ensure the recording is not deleted or overwritten.
The OAU also copies secured data, archived data or current data from the VDR's internal
hard drive to the USB Memory Stick (or optional RSM).
The OAU also features:
Visual and audible alarm indicators.
12-button keypad.
4 line x 20 character LED
Option to copy recorded data to the USB Memory Stick (or optional RSM)
Option to eject the USB Memory Stick (or optional RSM)

Planning the OAU

The OAU module connects to the DPU using a three-pair cable. The OAU provides a VDR alarm
signal via a dry contact, active upon a VDR alarm. The OAU alarm signal connects to the bridge
alarm panel via a one-pair cable.
The OAU is integrated into the DPU of the VDR-100G3. However, if the DPU is mounted away
from the navigation bridge, or is in a location that is not easily accessible by the officer on watch,
then the OAU must be separated from the DPU and installed in an accessible location on the
navigation bridge.
