ATLANTIC 300 i.e.
If the vehicle is inactive longer than fifteen days, it is necessary to recharge the battery to
avoid sulphation,
Remove the battery and put it away in a cool and dry place.
In winter or when the vehicle remains stopped, check the charge frequently (about once a
month) to avoid deterioration.
Fully recharge with a standard charge.
NOTE
IF THE BATTERY IS STILL ON THE VEHICLE, DISCONNECT THE CABLES FROM THE TERMI-
NALS.
COVERED BY WARRANTY
These batteries are not recognised by the warranty if they show:
- mechanical cracks (for example, container is damaged, poles bent, etc.);
- general sulphation (attributable to a wrong activation or use of the battery);
- low electrolyte level (to solve the shipping problem, just close the breather tube with the specific rubber
cap).
There are two types of batteries available in the market:
batteries that require maintenance, with cell caps;
maintenance-free batteries without cell caps because they do not require electrolyte level
checks or top-ups.
After the first 1000 km (621 mi) and then as indicated in the scheduled maintenance table, check the
electrolyte level and the tightening of terminals.
CAUTION
THE BATTERY ELECTROLYTE IS TOXIC, CORROSIVE AND AS IT CONTAINS SULPHURIC ACID,
IT CAN CAUSE BURNS WHEN IN CONTACT WITH THE SKIN. WEAR PROTECTION CLOTHES, A
FACE MASK
AND/OR SAFETY GOGGLES WHEN CARRYING OUT MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS. IF THE
ELECTROLYTIC FLUID GETS INTO CONTACT WITH THE SKIN, WASH WITH ABUNDANT COOL
WATER.
IF IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH THE EYES, RINSE THEM CAREFULLY WITH WATER FOR
FIFTEEN MINUTES,
THEN SEE AN EYE SPECIALIST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
IF IT IS ACCIDENTALLY SWALLOWED, DRINK A LOT OF WATER OR MILK, THEN MILK OF
MAGNESIA OR VEGETAL OIL, AND SEEK MEDICAL ADVICE IMMEDIATELY.
THE BATTERY RELEASES EXPLOSIVE GASES. KEEP IT AWAY FROM FLAMES, SPARKS, CIG-
ARETTES OR ANY OTHER HEAT SOURCE.
WHEN RECHARGING OR USING THE BATTERY, BE CAREFUL TO HAVE THE ROOM ADE-
QUATELY AIRED; DO NOT BREATH GASES RELEASED WHEN THE BATTERY IS BEING RE-
CHARGED.
KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. PAY ATTENTION NOT TO TILT THE VEHICLE EX-
CESSIVELY TO AVOID DANGEROUS SPILLS OF BATTERY FLUID.
CAUTION
DO NOT INVERT THE CONNECTIONS OF THE BATTERY LEADS.
CONNECT AND DISCONNECT THE BATTERY WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH SET TO "OFF".
CONNECT THE POSITIVE (+) LEAD FIRST AND THEN THE NEGATIVE (-) ONE.
DISCONNECT IN THE REVERSE ORDER.
