Definitions of Common Terms
Definition
User-definable attributes or settings. For example, print properties
include page orientation and duplex mode.
A Document Manager system folder. The administrator and all
registered and unregistered users can edit, view, and print documents
in the Public folder. They can also create Public subfolders.
A print job that is sent to the controller by means other than the printer
driver. For example, using DOS commands to print directly to the local
port, or using a different type of driver, such as a HP driver, to print to
a Imagistics controller.
Any user who creates a new user account and logs on to the system.
Registered users have access to their own private folders.
A printing mode that allows you to delay printing a queued job until a
specific date and time.
A feature where a blank page is printed in between designated pages
of the original document. Insertion sheets are stapled with the original
document (if stapling is requested). See also Page Interleaving.
Printing on only one side of a piece of paper. See also Duplex.
Simple Network Management Protocol. A widely used network
monitoring and control protocol. Data is passed from SNMP agents,
which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in
each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.) to the workstation
console used to oversee the network. The agents return information
contained in a MIB (Management Information Base), which is a data
structure that defines what is obtainable from the device and what can
be controlled. Originating in the Unix community, SNMP has become
widely used on all major platforms.
Sequenced Packet Exchange. The transport level protocol used by
Novell NetWare.
A section within a network.
The person who is responsible for configuring Document Manager
and other system components for use. The system administrator is
also responsible for storing documents in the Department folder for
other users to view and print.
