A.3 ACM/VCM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation / Variable Coding and
Modulation) Operation
The VersaFEC® Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) feature is a patents‐pending technology
owned and developed by Comtech EF Data and Comtech AHA Enterprise Products Group.
ACM allows modulation and code rate (ModCod) to change on a frame‐by‐frame basis subject to
current link conditions. As ACM converts available link margin into increased capacity, average
capacity gain of 100% or more is possible. This maximizes each remote's throughput under all
conditions which, in turn, maximizes network efficiency and availability. ACM maximizes
throughput regardless of link conditions (noise or other impairments, clear sky, rain fade, etc).
Return Link ACM operation is available in the CDM‐840 and ODM‐840 Remote Routers and in
the CDD‐880 Multi Receiver Routers. Outbound ACM operation is available in the CDM‐800
Gateway Router via the CTOG‐250 Comtech Traffic Optimization Gateway.
