Automation
Trim... continued
To enable the TRIM mode for faders, activate the master TRIM prime function either from small screen softkeys or the
dedicated function switch on AWS. Once active, the fader status keys prime the individual faders for writing Trim data, and
this is indicated by the green Trim Status led flashing as well as the fader automatically being positioned at the 0dB point
(or at the current trim level if the playlist contains existing trim data). A second operation of the Status key will return the
fader to controlling the channel volume and the fader will motor back to the current channel volume level. Once the
required channels have been primed to write trim data the TRIM prime key is then deselected. The TRIM key indicator
flashes whenever the master TRIM prime function is active.
The small screen ALL soft-key will toggle all channels into Trim if activated whilst the TRIM prime function is active. As with
the other automation mode functions, AWS has a dedicated front panel ALL key. The ALL key stays lit if all the console
channels have been primed for trim. Toggling one or more channels back to writing absolute volume data will turn off the
ALL key tally indication. Deselecting the master TRIM prime key will also clear the ALL tally.
Any fader primed for the Trim will write trim level data when touched or if the fader Status switch is activated. This will be
indicated by the green Status LED illuminating. When a fader is writing trim automation the current trim value is displayed
on the desk scribble strip above the fader replacing the channel name. Unless SNAP is enabled, in which case releasing the
fader drops the channel out of Write, trim data will be written until the fader is dropped out of Write by the channel Status
switch or if the ALL REPLAY command is used. The current AutoMatch time will ramp the trim data back to the 0 dB default
if no previous trim data exists or to the previous trim value save in the automation playlist. Stopping Playback will have the
the same effect but without the ramp.
The Trim level is displayed on the scribble strip regardless of whether the fader is actually in Write. This allows a preset
trim value to be set whilst the DAW is stopped by activating the Status switch and setting the fader to the required level.
This value will be immediately written when the DAW resumes playing.
Note that the Fader knob in the plug-in GUI changes to gold when Trim has been selected on a channel.
Unlike the original AWS automation system, there is no interlock between the Volume (Absolute) and Trim automation,
and Volume automation can be freely updated without affecting any existing Trim automation data. However, it is not
possible (or desirable!) to write Volume and Trim automation simultaneously. If the Trim mode is selected on a Fader
currently writing Volume data it is automatically dropped out of Write.

Offline Trim

It is possible to trim the overall level of a channel fader without affecting the underlying automation data. To do this, press
the OFFLINE TRIM button and use the channel V-pots to trim the channel gain. When a trim has been introduced, the
OFFLINE TRIM button flashes and the LED below the relevant V-pots lights. This level is stored and can be recalled via
the console TR setup, as described in Section 4. 7-9
To reset all Offline Trims to 0dB, press and hold the OFFLINE TRIM button. To reset individual channels. to 0dB push
the V-pot switch.
