a unique unit address. The PULSE Master is assigned a unit address of 0 by default. The remaining
radios are assigned unique unit addresses in the range of 1 to 254. The unit addresses assigned to
each radio in the diagram are shown in parentheses.
The Operating mode setting must be set according to the role of the radio in the system (master,
repeater or remote).
In order to establish the proper communication links, the appropriate hop patterns need to be
assigned to the radios. The following rules can be used to guide the assignment process:
In order for two radios to communicate with each other, they must be assigned the same hop
pattern.
The master and the radios that communicate directly with it must be assigned the same
Primary hop pattern.
The radios that communicate directly with a repeater are assigned a Primary hop pattern that
matches the repeater's Repeater hop pattern.
If the Primary hop pattern for a repeater is odd, its Repeater hop pattern should be set to an
even value, and vice-versa. (Odd and even hop patterns hop on different sets of frequencies,
and will not interfere with each other.)
The colored boxes in the diagram show the hop patterns assigned to the radios. In particular:
Radios 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 are assigned a Primary hop pattern of 1
Radio 3 is assigned a Repeater hop pattern of 2, and radio 5 is assigned a Primary hop
pattern of 2
Radio 4 is assigned a Repeater hop pattern of 4, and radio 6 is assigned a Primary hop
pattern of 4
Radio 6 is assigned a Repeater hop pattern of 3, and radios 7 and 8 are assigned a Primary
hop pattern of 3
The following topics show the detailed settings for each of the radios in the example:
