WARNING
Battery must be connected with ignition switched on. If pyro‐
technic components (e.g. airbag, seat belt tensioners) are
repaired incorrectly, undesired triggering may occur after the
battery is connected. Ensure that nobody is in vehicle when
connecting battery.
– Connect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒ Elec‐
trical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and discon‐
necting battery .
Note
If airbag warning lamp -K75- indicates a fault following installation,
event memory must be read, deleted and then read again ⇒ Ve‐
hicle diagnostic tester.

Removing and installing side airbag with
rear side airbag igniter -N201- / -N202-
Note
Removal and installation are described for the left vehicle side.
Follow same instructions for the right side as appropriate.

Removing
– Remove side padding together with side airbag -1-
⇒ page 275
.
– Release connector -2- together with wiring harness from side
padding -1-.
– Unscrew bolts -3- (9 Nm).
Note
The bolts are microencapsulated and must be renewed each time they are removed.
Before new bolts are installed, the threads of the corresponding holes must be cleaned.
– Remove rear side airbag -4- from side padding -1-.
