11.1
Safety precautions for when working on
seat occupied recognition
♦ The seat occupied recognition control unit -J706- must always
be reset after the front passenger seat has been repaired, for
example when the seat cover has been "replaced". The reset
is to be carried out with the vehicle diagnosis, testing and in-
formation system -VAS 5051B- .
♦ Take care that the pressure sensor for seat occupied recog-
nition -G452- does not become kinked.
♦ The components of the seat recognition must not come into
contact with grease.
♦ There is always a danger that the components of the seat rec-
ognition may be damaged by pointed/sharp objects when
working on the seat. This danger must be prevented.
♦ The pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -G452-
must be positioned without creasing.
♦ During installation, care must be taken to install seat padding
and seat cover in correct position.
♦ If there is a seat heating element, it must always be installed
under the pressure sensor for seat occupied recognition -
G452- .
♦ Renew all padding clips of the cover. Ensure clips are correctly
positioned on seat padding.
♦ The basic setting of the system is only possible between tem-
peratures of 0°C and +40°C.
♦ Ensure that no object is on the seat before and/or during the
basic settings.
♦ The use of additional items on the seat, such as cushions or
similar, impairs the functioning of the seat occupied recogni-
tion system and can therefore prevent the airbag system from
functioning correctly.

Procedure after an accident when belt
tensioner and/or airbag was triggered
♦ The seat occupied recognition control unit -J706- must always
be reset if the front passenger airbag and/or seat belt tensioner
on front passenger side has been triggered. The reset is to be
