Removing and installing driver side air‐
bag igniter -N95-
Note
Removal and installation of the airbag unit is described for the
multifunction steering wheel.
The screwdriver mentioned in the following activities should
be about 175 mm long and have a blade width of about 7 mm.
Removing
WARNING
♦ Follow safety regulations for pyrotechnic components

– Disconnect battery earth cable with ignition switched on ⇒
Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27 ; Battery; Connecting and dis‐
connecting battery .
– Move steering wheel to lowest position.
– Extend steering wheel as far as possible into passenger com‐
partment.
– Turn steering wheel to position shown.
– Insert a screwdriver into hole in back of steering wheel to stop
(approx. 8 mm).
– Turn screwdriver in direction of driver's door -arrow A-. As a
result, catch -1- of the airbag unit is released in
-direction of arrow B-, on the right-hand side of steering wheel.
Note
If the steering wheel is not a multifunction steering wheel, the airbag unit has to be pulled out of the steering
wheel hub after the catch on the top has been released.
– Turn steering wheel 180° and release catch of airbag unit on
left side of steering wheel as described.
Note
If the steering wheel is not a multifunction steering wheel, the airbag unit has to be pulled out of the steering
wheel hub after the catch on the top has been released.
– Turn steering wheel back to middle position.
– Release airbag unit from steering wheel.
