ENGINE REMOVAL

DISASSEMBLY

NOTES
Vehicle should be placed onto the lift with rear tire in the
wheel vise in order to successfully perform this procedure.
For 1200 models with interactive exhaust systems see
2.36
FOOTPEG,

FIREBOLT/LIGHTNING.
1.
Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector and run vehicle
until it is out of fuel. See
NOTES
This step is always performed in order to purge fuel lines.
The connection for fuel pump is just above the pump loc-
ated at the rear of the fuel tank on the left side of the
vehicle.

Drain oil tank. See
1.5 ENGINE OIL AND
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause
death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery
cable before proceeding. (00048a)

Remove seat and disconnect battery: negative cable
(black) first.
GUARD

Remove intake cover and air cleaner assembly. See
2.52 AIR
SCOOPS.
When removing the left air scoop, the alternator and voltage
regulator harnesses and connections are secured to the bottom
of the air scoop with three cable straps.

Remove left and right side air scoops. See
FAIRING.

Remove chin fairing. See
NOTES
A clamp ring secures the velocity stack to the throttle body.
Install shop towel in entrance to throttle body to prevent
objects from falling into the induction module.

Remove throttle body velocity stack.

3-6. Disconnect fuel line (7).
9.
Disconnect the ignition coil connector [83] (2) and remove
the ignition coil (1).
10. Disconnect throttle position sensor [88] (8).
11. Disconnect fuel injector leads [84], [85] (5).
12. Disconnect idle air control [87] (6).
