Perform the following steps to set up the Fault Management system:
1 Click Setup in the options located on the right side of the Fault
Management panel.
2 Select the type of alarms you want to enable by clicking the appropriate
check box. Notice that there are several types available for various severity
levels.
3 Click the Notification tab and select the severity levels for which 3WXM
should send an email notification. You can select severity levels for the
following categories:
Performance
Security
Client
System
See "Classifying and Organizing Alarms" on page 393 for more
information about the categories.
Enter the appropriate email address in the Email Address field at the
bottom of the screen.
4 Click the Database Maintenance tab. The Database Maintenance tab
allows you to specify how many faults to store in the database and the
number of days to keep uncleared faults. In addition, use this tab to
specify the number of days to keep active Critical, Major, Minor, and
Informational alarms in the database. Enter the desired values in the
following fields:
Number of events per alarm—The number of recent events that
should be retained in the database for each alarm.
3WXM allows up to four more events than specified. When a fifth extra
event enters the log, 3WXM then prunes the 5 oldest events. For
example, if the maximum number of events per alarm is 25, 3WXM does
not prune any until the number of events reaches 30. 3WXM then prunes
away the 5 oldest events to leave 25 events.
Number of days—The number of days after which any cleared alarms
will be deleted from the database.
Critical—The number of days after which any active critical alarms will
be removed.
Major—The number of days after which any active major will be aged.
