Using MMR and its Online Help
In addition to its primary function, MMR Setup provides access to configuration
information and creates the initial download schedule. After installation, you can
use MMR Setup to view and modify configuration information. For example,
should you decide to collect data from an additional Meridian Mail system after the
initial installation, you would use MMR Setup to add the site to the system
database. Based on the configuration details in the database, MMR Setup creates a
download schedule. The download schedule is stored in the system database and is
put into effect immediately following the installation process.
Note: After installation, you use MMR Reports to view and modify the download
schedule even though MMR Setup initially creates the schedule.

MMR Communications

MMR Communications serves two main purposes: it manages both the
communication link to the Meridian Mail system, and the schedules for
downloading and printing reports. The following sections outline some of MMR
Communications' important features.

Download Process

MMR Communications provides a variety of communication-related functions.
The download process involves transferring, converting, and merging Operational
Measurement (OM) files.
File Transfer
Primarily, MMR Communications transfers OM files from Meridian Mail to the PC
using a proprietary packet protocol. Each time a connection is established to
Meridian Mail, a file size estimate is sent to the PC, and MMR Communications
changes the Link Activity status from Idle to Download. Using this estimate,
MMRC displays a variety of statistics including the time remaining until the
completion of the file transfer.
Note: When modems are used to connect to the Meridian Mail system, the Link
Activity status will change from Idle to Dial when the call is first initiated. Once the
link is established, the Link Activity status changes to Download.
File Conversion
When the file transfer is complete, MMR Communications changes the Link
Activity status from Download to Idle and the Database Activity status from Idle to
Busy. MMR Communications then launches MMR Reports and signals it to begin
processing the new OM data from Meridian Mail. When MMR Reports receives
this signal, it displays a message box on the screen (as a progress indicator) and
begins to prepare the database for the new OM data.
