Meridian Mail Reporter 2.0 User's Guide
A high number of retries indicates the following:
• The destination number was busy.
• There was no answer at the destination.
• A transmit error prevented the fax from being received.
To investigate specific instances of high retries, run the Fax Audit Trail Summary
report for the corresponding time interval. The number of new attempts should
equal the number of new requests. If the number of new requests is greater than the
number of new attempts, then the system is not keeping up with the demand for fax
outcalling. The system may require more multimedia channels.
Wait time indicates how long the fax feature has to wait for a free channel. If the
wait time is high, extra multimedia channels may be required for your system.
The number of successful attempts would ideally equal the number of attempts. If
the numbers are not equal, the following may be indicated:
• There may be a problem with the destination fax service, or the caller may not
have entered a valid number. Run the Fax Audit Trail Summary report for the
phone numbers where fax delivery failed.
• The switch might have outcalling restrictions even though Meridian Mail does not.
For example, long distance calls may be restricted.
• The fax outcalling feature or dialing translation table may have been set up
incorrectly.
• The retry time-outs may have expired if the channels were tied up for some time.
High wait times also indicate this problem. Consider expanding the number of
multimedia channels.
