Excessive Incomplete Voice Mail Accesses Alert
Displayed Report Fields
Date/Time Period: The date and time period during which the failed logon
attempts were made.
Total Voice Mail Accesses: The total number of attempted logons to Voice Mail,
successful or unsuccessful.
Num of Logon Sessions: The total number of successful logons to voice mail.
Failed Accesses: The total number of failed logons to Voice Mail due to an invalid
mailbox.
Percent Failed: The percentage of failed accesses over the total number of Voice
Mail accesses.
The report is sorted by Date/Time.
Analysis and Corrective Actions
This alert indicates that there is an unusually high number of attempts to log on to
invalid voice mailboxes. This activity could be the result of a hacker using a
computer to systematically gain access to a mailbox on your system, but with no
prior knowledge of the mailbox numbering plan.
Remind all mailbox owners that passwords should have some degree of difficulty
so that the system remains secure.
