Modem failed to connect, timeout
The modem did not connect to the Meridian Mail site within the 60-second timeout
period. The connection attempt was aborted.
Action
Perform the following steps. Stop this procedure when the problem is resolved.
1. Check the cable between the modem and the phone jack to make sure it is
connected to the proper phone line.
2. Check the phone line by dialing the modem number of the Meridian Mail site.
Listen for modem tones.
3. Check your setup. The Dial number for the Meridian Mail site may have been
entered incorrectly in the Modem Commands dialog box. Make sure you have the
right number (DN) for the site.
4. Call the administrator at the Meridian Mail site to inquire about the receiving
modem. There may be a problem with the receiving modem.
The following potential problems are:
• The modem may not be programmed to go into answer mode.
• The modem may wait too long to pick up a call. For example, if
programmed to pick up after the 15th ring, this may take longer than 60
seconds, thus exceeding the timeout threshold.
• The receiving modem is not compatible with the sending modem or is
incorrectly programmed.
5. Perform an Immediate Download to get current data from Meridian Mail.
Modem failed to disconnect
The modem connected to the PC did not disconnect when the communication
between the modem and the Meridian Mail site was complete.
The Hangup Prefix or the Hangup Suffix, or both, that are configured in the Modem
Commands dialog box may be wrong for your modem type.
Action
Follow this procedure to verify (and possibly change) the current setup configuration.
1. In your MMR or modem documentation, look up the correct Hangup Prefix and
Hangup Suffix for your modem type. If your modem type is not listed, your modem
may be unsupported.
