NOTE:
After you power off a power supply, wait at least 60 seconds before you turn it on. After
you power on a power supply, wait for at least 60 seconds before you turn it off.

Powering Off an XRE200 External Routing Engine That Does Not Have CLI Access

You can use this process in any scenario when the CLI access to the XRE200 External Routing Engine is
unavailable, including scenarios when you cannot access the CLI due to a software problem or due to a
login issue. You should only power off the XRE200 External Routing Engine using these instructions if you
are unable to restore CLI access.
Before you power off the external Routing Engine:
Ensure that you understand how to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage. See
Electrostatic Discharge Damage" on page
Ensure that you do not need to forward traffic through the external Routing Engine.
Ensure that you have the following parts and tools available:
An ESD grounding strap
To power off an external Routing Engine that does not have access to the CLI:
1. Push the power button on the rear panel of the XRE200 External Routing Engine. Hold the power
button down for more then 1 second but less then 4 seconds.
NOTE:
Holding the power button down for 4 or more seconds triggers a hard reset. In rare
cases, a hard reset can corrupt file systems on an XRE200 External Routing Engine. Use the
hard reset only as a last resort to power off the external Routing Engine to avoid this risk.
2. Observe the power supply LED. The power supply LED should turn off (appear unlit).
3. If you are unable to power off the external Routing Engine in Step 1, retry Step 1.
4. If you are still unable to power off the external Routing Engine, push the power button on the rear
panel of the external Routing Engine and hold the power button down for 4 or more seconds to start
a hard reset.
