Most of the problems that might be encountered will be related to the devices
on the Fibre Channel network, or the network itself. The source of the problem
can be with the device, the hub, the host, or any of the connections between
the host and device. The following are some of the more common problems
that can occur, and suggestions for troubleshooting them.

Serial Communication Problems

If you are unable to make a successful connection over an RS-232 interface, it
may be due to the large number of variations of this interface. Therefore it is
important to check that the cable is not only plugged in correctly, but that it
has the correct pin connections. A "null modem" cable should be used. Pins 2,
3 and 7 are used. Pins 2 and 3 are crossed.

Fibre Channel Connections

The Compaq Storage Hub 12 Management Module (HMM) uses Fibre
Channel cables to communicate with cascaded and end-node devices. Loose or
broken cables can cause a number of problems.
Inspect the cabling between the hub and attached FC-AL devices. Check
for loose, dirty, broken, or bent cabling and connectors. Optic cables
should latch into position with an audible "click." DB-9 copper cables
should be secured.
