C-8 Compaq Storage Hub 12 Management Utilities Hardware and Software User Guide

Obtaining Hub Information

Choosing 7 restores the default values to the SNMP Community Name
fields. There is no menu for this function. The names in Table are
restored to the defaults given. This feature can be handy when trying to
communicate with the Compaq Storage Hub 12 hub from HMU and you
don't remember the names that were set in the hub.
Selecting 8 clears any IP addresses that were set up from choice 5 Set
SNMP trap IP addresses. As in the case of choice 7 above, there is no
menu.
Choosing 9 permits entering a new password. There is verification if
this has been successfully completed of not. This is NOT an SNMP
function. It is setting the password to the Compaq Storage Hub 12 hub
itself.
Selecting 10 presents a menu that permits allowing restricted SNMP
access for up to four systems. That is, only the systems on this list can
access the SNMP information on this hub. Add the system by adding its
IP address, and remove a system from the list by entering its I/O address
a second time. Enabling all IP addresses access is done by using the
illegal IP address of 255.255.255.255. Disable this universal access by
removing that IP address just like any other. Return to the main menu.
Select 4 Hub Information to display the hub-specific ethernet MAC (Media
Access Control) address and a list of cascaded devices.
The MAC address is a 48-bit address, of which the first half is a Compaq
company identifier, and the other half is an address assigned by Compaq that
is completely unique. The MAC address is not needed in normal operations,
but could be useful when troubleshooting ethernet problems.
If Management station IP addresses are present, they identify any management
stations currently observing or managing this hub. Note that users at those
management stations would have to know the SNMP Community Names
associated with this hub.
Other information that may be available from this menu would be particulars
about any cascaded devices reporting to this master. Select 2. Display list of
cascaded devices to view the Model, Serial Number, and Version of the
cascaded devices. It may take about a minute or so to display if there are many
devices on which to report.
