Ping a Device

If the network is suffering from either too many LIPs or LIP broadcast storms,
test for these situations and find out if excessive or continuous Fibre Channel
primitives of various types are occuring.
Although this test is usually automatically performed by HMU during the
discovery process, this test can be performed manually.
If there is a problem communicating with a device after the IP address has
been verified, check that the physical connection to the device has been
established, by using Packet Internet Groper (PING). This is known as
"pinging" a device. From the DOS prompt of the PC, enter the following line:
ping nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn
