Managed Devices

is stored in the form of a Management Information Base (MIB) and sent via
SNMP to the Hub 12 Management Utilities console that runs on a 32-bit
Windows workstation.
The Hub 12 Management Utilities can be executed from any 32-bit
workstation running Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0. This workstation must
contain include an Ethernet connection to the Proxy Master hub and a Compaq
Storage Hub 12 Management Module.
The data that is stored within the information base appears at the management
workstation. The Hub 12 Management Utilities show a Graphical User
Interface (GUI) display of the network topology, and monitor and bypass
control of individual nodes, loops, enclosures, storage devices, and
connectivity devices.
The Hub 12 Management Utilities represent the next generation of
management tools, designed to meet all the requirements of storage area
networks. Features and capabilities include:
Showing the topography of device connection, including which devices
are connected to nodes or other devices, and the order of connection.
Allowing the administrator to remotely control devices, performing such
tasks as enabling and disabling ports on a hub, and changing policies
and parameters within each device.
Enabling the administrator to monitor, detect, isolate, and correct
network problems remotely and to determine fault locations remotely.
Determining traffic flow within the network and monitoring bandwidth
utilization for capacity planning.
A managed device is any device which can both send and receive data from
the Hub 12 Management Utilities. These utilities can not manage every device
in a network. The differences between managed and unmanaged devices are
detailed in Table A-1.
