Enabling power supply management

If power supply management is not enabled when you add a new card by inserting it into the slot or
starting power supply to the card by using the power-supply command, the system directly powers on the
card, and the power supply may become unstable or the system may restart because of overloading.
If power supply management is enabled when you add a new card by inserting it into the slot or starting
power supply to the card by using the power-supply command, the system compares the maximum
power consumption of the card against the available power (including the redundant power supply). If
the former is not greater than the latter, the system supplies power to the card, otherwise, the system does
not supply power to the card.
Follow these steps to enable power supply management:
To do...
Enter system view
Enable power supply management
(standalone mode)
Enable power supply management
on a specified member switch (IRF
mode)
Configuring the number of redundant power modules
Redundant power modules are reserved for power module backup and power module threshold
alarming. With multiple redundant power modules configured in the system, if a power module fails or
the system power supply is overloaded, the system automatically enables a redundant power module. As
a result, the number of redundant power modules decreases by one.
Follow these steps to configure the number of redundant power modules:
To do...
