Free Length and Tilt of Valve Spring
1. Measure the free length (B) with vernier calipers.
2. If the measurement is less than the allowable limit, replace the
spring.
3. Put the spring on a surface plate.
4. Place a square on the side of the spring.
5. Check to see if the entire side is contact with the square.
6. Rotate the spring and measure the maximum (A).
7. If the measurement exceeds the allowable limit, replace the
spring.
8. If the entire surface of the spring for scratches, replace the
spring.
