Symbologies by Serial Command

RSS Expanded

Definition:
RSS Expanded is a variable length symbology that can encode supple-
mentary information in addition to the 14-digit EAN.UCC item identifica-
tion number and is capable of encoding up to 74 numeric or 41 alphabetic
characters.
Usage:
Used to encode primary and supplementary data in retail point-of-sale
and other applications.
RSS Expanded Status
Definition:
Offers a choice between stacked only and both stacked and not stacked.
Usage:
Where appropriate, use 1 (non-stacked) for better performance over 2
(stacked and non-stacked).
Serial Cmd:
<K484,status,fixed symbol length status,fixed symbol length>
Default:
Disabled
Options:
0 = Disabled
2 = Enabled (stacked and non-stacked)
Fixed Symbol Length Status (RSS 14 expanded)
Definition:
When enabled, the scanner will check the symbol length against the sym-
bol length field, minus the embedded check digit. If disabled, any length
would be considered a valid symbol.
Serial Cmd:
<K484,status,fixed symbol length
Default:
Disabled
Options:
0 = Disabled
Fixed Symbol Length (RSS 14 expanded)
Definition:
Specifies the exact number of characters that the scanner will recognize
(this does not include start and stop and check digit characters). The
scanner ignores any symbol not having the specified length.
Usage:
Fixed Symbol Length helps prevent truncations and increases data
integrity by ensuring that only one symbol length will be accepted.
