Feature Reference
Call admission control - bandwidth limitation
IP network region pairs may be considered to be directly connected, or indirectly connected. Indirectly
connected region pairs are connected through other directly connected region pairs. In this phase of the
CAC Bandwidth Limitation feature, Communication Manager will only allow administration of one path
between non-adjacent IP network regions, if needed. In many instances, the network can be modeled as
though non-adjacent IP network regions are directly connected.
The CAC Bandwidth Limitation feature monitors the voice traffic bandwidth utilization across the
various WAN links based on algorithms computed for each voice connection that goes over those links
(using various parameters such as codec selection).
When the bandwidth limit is reached between any two regions, the feature does not allow any additional
IP connections between those regions. Communication Manager will re-route the call according to
existing administration:
A coverage path
Searching for another agent
The next trunk group in a route pattern
The feature provides administrators with a static display of bandwidth utilization and an event log of call
denials via SAT commands.
Interactions
Announcements
The CAC-BL feature will monitor the bandwidth required to access an announcement, if that
announcement requires WAN resources. The ability to listen to an announcement shall be blocked
if the WAN bandwidth limits are exceeded. Since there is no need for the announcement source to
receive a voice path, only one direction of talk path needs to be considered.
Call Queuing
When the CAC-BL feature blocks a connection, call queuing can be used as a re-routing
mechanism. An attempt will be made to deliver the call to the next available agent, attendant, or
hunt group, etc. Each attempt to re-route the call is subject to the CAC-BL feature, as well.
Call Redirection
When the CAC-BL feature blocks a connection, and if call redirection is administered for the
destination, the connection can be rerouted via call coverage, such as voice mail or another
station. Each attempt to re-route the call is subject to the CAC-BL feature, as well.
Call Routing via Trunking
IP trunk connections between regions that get blocked by the CAC-BL feature will progress to
trying the next entry in the routing pattern rules. Each attempt to re-route the call is subject to the
CAC-BL feature, as well.
Conference
Initiating a conference call requires another call appearance to actually dial another party (or to
select another party on hold). Hence, the CAC-BL feature needs to be able to block the
conference if dialing that other party would cause bandwidth limits to be exceeded. The CAC-BL
feature also needs to be able to block the conference if completing the conference call would
cause bandwidth limits to be exceeded.
