6-18 Adding Options
Use the following steps as a general guide for installing an
industry-standard 8-bit or 16-bit ISA or 32-bit PCI
expansion board in your system unit.
Follow any preinstallation instructions in your option

documentation (such as setting switches or jumpers on
the board).
Any switch or jumper information in NEC option
documentation is common to all NEC systems. Use
this information for the board you are installing in
your system.
WARNING: Be sure that the system unit
power is turned off and the system is unplugged
before you begin the installation procedure.
Remove the system unit bottom access cover (see
2.
Chapter 5).
Remove the screw securing an expansion slot cover and

remove the cover. Take care to keep the slot cover from
falling into the unit when you remove the screw. If it
does fall into the unit, be sure to remove it.
