Customizing a 3274 Control Unit usually involves a planner and someone
responsible for the actual customizing operation. The planner identifies
and compiles the configuration information needed for each 327 4 and gives
it to the person responsible for customizing the 327 4. This person is
prompted by a series of sequence numbers that are displayed in the form of
three digits. The responses to these sequence numbers are usually entries
of 1 to 8 alphanumeric characters. The display station used for this
operation must be attached to port AO of the 3274. The display station
should also be near the 327 4 during customizing because certain indicators
must be observed on the 3274. (If you are using a 3279 Color Display
Station, a color convergence procedure may have to be performed before
customizing. The color convergence procedure .is described in Appendix E.)
In general, the person who customizes the system or load diskette uses a
language diskette and a feature diskette in conjunction with the
customizing procedure. The language diskette is ,µsed to customize the
system or load diskette for languages other than English (U.S.), Canadian
(Bilingual), Canadian French (all are EBCDIC), and American National
Standard Code for Information Interchange. (ASCII) (U.S.). (ASCII is
available in the U.S. only.) The featurediskette is used to customize the
system or load diskette for all other cluster parameters. The detailed
customizing procedures explain when to insert the required diskettes and
direct the person customizing the 327 4 to enter the configuration
information into the 327 4 through a display station attached to port AO of
the 3274.
To simplify the customizing task, it is recommended that the planner
compile the configuration information and supply it to the person
responsible for performing the customizing procedure. Included in
Chapter 3 are descriptions of the parameters to be entered and instructions
for completing the Initial Customizing Procedure Form (Chapter 4). A form
should be completed for each 3274 ordered before delivery of the unit. In
addition, configuration information should be copied on the IBM 3274
Configuration Data Card, GA23-0046, (shipped with the 3274) and stored in
the 327 4. (A pocket on the inside of the 327 4 customer access door is a
convenient place to store this card. On the Model 51C, this card is stored
in the diskette storage area on the front of the machine.)
Subsystem Verification
2-2
After customizing is completed, all devices are attached to the 3274, and an
initial microcode load (IML) of the subsystem has been performed, it should
be verified that the control unit can reach all attached devices. This can be
done by means of the "Subsystem Verification Procedure" in Appendix D.
This procedure allows the operator to:
Verify the number of type A and B devices configured
e
Determine whether a device is powered on or off
e
Determine whether a device has been disabled as a result of a device
error.
This procedure should be given to the person responsible for performing the
customizing procedure.
