HPE Smart Storage Battery

The HPE Smart Storage Battery supports the following devices:
HPE Smart Array SR controllers
HPE Smart Array MR controllers
A single 96W battery can support up to 24 devices.
After the battery is installed, it might take up to two hours to charge. Controller features requiring backup power are not
re-enabled until the battery is capable of supporting the backup power.
This server supports the 96W HPE Smart Storage Battery with the 145mm cable.

Removing and replacing the HPE Smart Storage Battery

WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system
components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to electrical components, take the appropriate anti-static precautions before
beginning any installation, removal, or replacement procedure. Improper grounding can cause electrostatic
discharge.
NOTE: System ROM and firmware messages might display "energy pack" in place of "Smart Storage Battery." Energy pack
refers to both HPE Smart Storage batteries and HPE Smart Storage Hybrid capacitors.
Procedure
1. Power down the system (Power down the system).
2. Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the system.
3. Remove the system from the rack (Remove the system from the rack).
4. Place the system on a flat, level surface.
5. Remove the access panel (Remove the access panel).
6. Extend the front drive cages out of the chassis (Extend the front drive cages out of the chassis).
7. Open the cable management holder (Open the cable management holder).
8. Disconnect the HPE Smart Storage Battery cable from the system board, and then release the cable from the air baffle
clips.
