The following table shows the structure of the purge unit.
Function
Wiper blade 1
Rises when the carriage retracts over wiper
blade 1 to wipe ink from the surface of the Bk
head.
Wiper blade 2
Rises when the carriage retracts over wiper
blade 2 to wipe ink from the surfaces of the C, M
and Y heads.
Cap
This cap is held by pressure against the head
during capping and suction. The cap is connected
to the feeder tube, and feeds sucked in waste
ink to the feeder tube.
Waste ink absorber
Itis held by pressure against the blade cleaner
attached to the bottom surface of the carriage at
the same time as the cap is held against the
head. The waste ink absorber absorbs excess
ink wiped by the blade cleaner from the wiper
blade.
Pressure cam home position sensor (PS4)
Detects the rotating position of the guide roller.
Purge motor (M3)
Rotates the cap cam and guide roller.
Waste ink tank
Connected with the feeder tube, this tank stores
sucked in waste ink.

Pre-discharge tank
Contains a drain sheet, and stores waste ink
discharged by pre-discharge.
Pre-discharge receptacle
The head carries out pre-discharge towards this
pre-discharge receptacle.
Wiper solenoid 1 (SL1)
Raises wiper blade 1.
Wiper solenoid 2 (SL2)
Raises wiper blade 2.
Cap cam home positions sensor (PS5)
Detects the rotating position of the cap cam.
Cap cam
Raises/lowers the cap by rotation action.
Feeder tube
Feeds sucked in waste ink to the waste ink tank.

Guide roller
Generates suction force by squeezing the feeder
tube.
