CHAPTER 2 OPERATION
MPU (1C210)
The MPU is connected to RAM, EPROM and
gate arrays (IC213, IC214, 1C217) by a 20-bit
address bus and 8-bit data bus.
A 32 MHz
extemal clock is divided internally to 16 MHz for
internal operations. The main functions of the
MPU are as follows:
* Communications with image controller PCB
Control of X-axis and Y-axis motors
Sensors and switches input ports
Solenoids output ports
Serial communications with slave CPU on
carriage board
Lamp lighting signa! output of media sensor
RAM (IC219)
32 kByte RAM is assigned as work area for
system processing of the MPU. RAM is provided
with a built-in battery and clock, and holds the
following data:
* Control panel setups and adjustment value
setups
* Pre-discharge and suction count (waste ink
fill detection)
EPROM (IC220)
* Program memory
* Internal pattern for auto head adjustment
backup
Gate array (IC217)
This gate array is provided with an 8-bit parallel
image data input port from the image controller,
and is for carrying out image data conversion.
It is connected to SRAM (IC216) by a 9-bit
address bus and 8-bit data bus, and controls
SRAM read/write operations.
SRAM (1C216)
8 kByte SRAM
is connected to gate array
(IC217) by an 8-bit bus, and is assigned as
work area for image data conversion.

Gate array (1C213)
This gate array counts pulses output from the
linear encoder, and generates the operation
timing of the three gate arrays (IC213, IC214,
1C217) matched to the output signals of the
linear encoder. The main function of this gate
array are as follows:
* Output of the purge motor drive signals
* Sensors and switches input ports
DRAM (1C211)
4 MBit DRAM saves image data loaded to gate
array (IC213).
Generates head drive pulses.
Gate array (IC214)
This gate array operates by an external 32 MHz
clock. This clock is divided to 16 MHz and fed
to gate arrays (IC213 and IC217).
Generates head drive pulses.
Reset IC (IC212)
The reset IC applies a reset to the MPU (IC210)
and gate arrays (1C213, IC214 and IC217)
synchronized with power ON.
