7.1 Behavior of the I/O Module in the Event of an Error
The behavior of the SMI master module if a diagnostic is present depends on the configu-
ration. The diagnostics can be globally activated or deactivated in the WAGO SMI Config-
urator and via IEC function blocks.
If a diagnostic is present, the SMI master module displays a general error. At most one
corresponding status bit can also be set according to the diagnostic detected. Therefore,
the diagnostics are prioritized. If multiple errors are present at the same time, the higher-
priority diagnostic is displayed (see
The SMI master module provides diagnostics for the following events:
• Controller failure
• Forced position active
• Undervoltage field supply
• Short circuit of SMI connections
7.2 Diagnostics via Process Image
The SMI master module outputs non-deactivatable status messages in process data
communication via one bit in the extended status byte for the following events:
• Energy saving mode active
• Controller locking active
• Status of the digital input
The table below shows the statuses of the SMI master module with possible diagnostics
and status messages.
