4.3 Process Image

4.3.1 Setup

The I/O module has a cyclic 12 byte process image for the local bus.
Process data communication with the SMI master module takes place in fieldbus coupler
mode via a cyclic process image and in full mode via the Mailbox 2.0 protocol.
The WAGO SMI Configurator and the IEC function blocks also use register communica-
tion.

4.3.2 Control and Status Bytes

The communication channels are controlled via the control byte. In addition, functions can
be triggered via the control byte and extended control byte. The status is output via the
status byte and extended status byte.
The representation of the control/status byte in the process image is independent of the
user-specific parameterization of the SMI master module.
Byte 0 of the process image contains the control/status byte. The interpretation of bytes 1
to 11 depends on the control/status byte. If register communication is detected via the
control/status byte, the following bytes contain parameterization data.
If process data communication is detected, byte 1 contains the extended control/status
byte. Depending on the control/status byte, bytes 2 to 11 contain data from either Mailbox
2.0 or the cyclic process image.
Control Byte
If bit 7 is set in the control byte, register communication is always active, and process
data communication inactive.
