Possible Cause
Software malfunction

Electrodes have come loose
from the instrument jaws
Electrode pins may have
been compromised or bent
during assembly of the in-
strument and may need to
be replaced

ject is grasped within jaws
Tissue grasped within jaws
is too thin
Pooled fluids around instru-
ment tip
Correcting Malfunctions
Solution
Turn off, then turn on the
generator.
Use a backup generator.
Contact the biomedical-en-
gineering department or a
Covidien Technical Service
representative
for
assis-
tance.
Check and reconnect in-
strument and/or footswitch
connection.
Power cycle the generator.
Replace the instrument if it
continues to malfunction.
Use a backup generator.

Clean jaws with a wet
gauze pad.
Re-insert the electrode into
the instrument jaws making
sure that all the electrode
pins are firmly seated. If not
resolved, replace the LigaS-
ure instrument.
Avoid
grasping
objects,
such as staples, clips, or en-
capsulated sutures in the
jaws of the instrument.
Open the jaws and confirm
that a sufficient amount of
tissue is inside the jaws. If
necessary,
increase
the
amount of tissue and re-
peat the procedure.
Minimize or remove excess
fluids.
