Preparing the graphics expansion module

Before performing the procedures in this document, you must prepare the graphics expansion module to be serviced. To
access internal components, use the following procedure.
Procedure
1. Power down the graphics expansion module.
2. Remove the graphics expansion module from the frame.
3. Remove the access panel.
4. If applicable, remove the Multi-MXM graphics expansion or the PCIe graphics expansion from the compute module.

Powering down the graphics expansion module
Procedure
1. Perform a backup of critical data and programs.
2. Use a graceful or non-graceful shutdown method to power down the graphics expansion module and place it in standby
mode.
IMPORTANT: Always attempt a graceful shutdown before forcing the shutdown of applications and the OS with a
non-graceful shutdown.
To perform a graceful shutdown of applications and the OS, do one of the following:
Press and release the Power On/Standby button.
In HPE OneView, use the Momentary press power off selection.
In HPE iLO, use the Momentary press virtual power button.
If a graceful shutdown fails to power down the compute module when an application or OS stops responding, force a non-
graceful shutdown of applications and the OS. To perform a non-graceful shutdown of applications and the OS, do one of
the following:
Press and hold the Power On/Standby button for more than four seconds.
In HPE OneView, use the Press and hold power off selection.
In HPE iLO, use the Press and hold virtual power button.
NOTE: Application data can be lost when performing a non-graceful shutdown.
3. Verify that the system power LED on the compute module and the expansion is amber to indicate that the graphics
expansion has successfully entered standby mode.
