Using MMR and its Online Help
Guidelines for Operating MMR
The following sections provide specific guidelines for operating MMR.
All programs
To avoid contention for the system database, MMR Setup cannot run
simultaneously with MMR Communications or MMR Reports.
MMR Setup
MMR Setup captures and validates MMR configuration. Consequently, MMR
Setup will not save configuration data until it meets the following criteria:
• The aggregate disk space required is less than 550 Mbytes.
• The aggregate disk space required is less than the disk space available.
• The aggregate download time is less than 20 hours.
• The OM password field is filled (single- or multisite configuration).
• The Dial column is filled (multisite configuration).
• The Ports column is filled (single- or multisite configuration).
• The Users column is filled (single- or multisite configuration).
MMR Setup will automatically start in view mode (you can view but not modify
the configuration information) if either MMR Communications or MMR Reports is
already running.
MMR Communications
Following the installation of MMR, the addition of a new site, or a modification to
the Dial or OM Password fields, MMR Communications checks the connection to
all affected sites by requesting the size estimate for one of the files. This test
validates that the connection can be made (that is, that the system can be reached,
the packet protocol can be established, and the OM password is valid).
MMR Reports
MMR Reports executes four steps in the daily download processing: purging the
oldest day of data, converting binary files to ASCII, deleting the three tables that
are replaced daily, and, finally, merging the newest day of data into the OM
