Change Settings for Modems Connected to Meridian Mail
You must set the parameters for the modem connected to Meridian Mail before
connecting the modem to MM. To set the parameters, connect the modem to a
VT-220 terminal or to a PC with a terminal emulation program (for example,
Microsoft Windows Terminal), and send a command string to the modem.
Note: When connecting the modem to the VT-220 terminal or PC, the serial port
must use the same speed that will be used between the modem and Meridian Mail.
Once the command string has been sent to the modem, you must set the modem
into Dumb Mode; that means, you must disable AT command recognition.
If you need to change the modem settings again, you must disable the Dumb Mode;
otherwise, the modem will not recognize the commands. After the commands have
been acknowledged by the modem, you must set the modem back to Dumb Mode.
