INTRODUCTION
 Beamforming: The beamformer performs initial signal processing: a combination of time
delay and phase rotation techniques to maximize performance.
 Bottom detection: The special bottom detection algorithm uses a combination of center-of-
energy and phase-zero crossing algorithms to detect the bottom in each individual beam
with the highest possible robustness. Selection of amplitude or phase detection is automatic
for each beam, based on signal analysis, generating optimal results over all seabed types.
 Built-In Test Environment (BITE): The Built-In-Test-Environment (BITE) is an integral
part of the sonar processing unit which monitors the status of the internal electronic sub-
systems and wet-end units. The BITE function is designed to inform the operator that the
system is performing normally and, therefore, that vehicle time is being utilized effectively.
In the event of any errors, the system will report this immediately for rapid troubleshooting.
 Channel normalization: This feature ensures equal performance across the receiver
channels which minimizes side lobe levels in the beamforming process. The result is
superlative beamforming with ultimate acoustic performance and maximum power in the
main beams.
 Depth rating: The SeaBat T-Series Subsea system is depth rated to 6000 or 400 meters.
 Dual frequency: 400kHz or the optional 200kHz frequency may be selected, allowing the
operator to choose the most appropriate frequency for the task. Systems with the shallow
configuration operate over the entire frequency range from 200 to 400kHz.
 External trigger: The system may be triggered using a standard 7k Center software
remote command or by a TTL incoming trigger pulse, allowing the system to be used
simultaneously alongside a multitude of other acoustic systems.
 Fast update: The entire swath is illuminated with a single transmission at an update rate
of up to 50Hz (range selection dependent). This allows compliance with IHO SP44Ed 5
coverage requirements even at high speed.
 FlexMode: FlexMode allows the operator to select an ultra-high density sector and direct
it anywhere in the swath while maintaining full swath coverage.
 Full rate dual head: FRDH uses X-range (FM) to achieve dual-head operation with the
double effect of increased swath coverage and ping rate. With FRDH the systems are
synchronized and ping simultaneously at a high rate.
 Hardware sync pulse out: A TTL pulse (synchronous with the transmit pulse) is
available from the SSP for synchronization purposes, allowing the system to be used
simultaneously alongside a multitude of other acoustic systems. This output is referred to
as Trigger Out.
 Multi-detect: This feature provides multiple detections within each beam to capture highly
detailed images of complex objects and seabed terrain. Easier and faster than water
column processing, the feature reduces the need for collecting large water column sets.
 Operator selectable beam density: Within each beamforming mode, the operator has
full control over how many beams to form, ranging from high density down to just a few.
This produces highest detail where necessary, and allows improved efficiency at low
altitudes by deploying fewer beams. A special option is the ability to define the desired
spacing between beams on the seafloor. The system will "hold" this automatically, varying
the number of beams as depth changes.
 Operator selectable beamforming mode: The operator is able to select from a number
of different preset modes with up to 512, including Equi-Distant and Equi-Angle. Equi-
Distant provides uniform data density across the swath and leads to greatest efficiency by
minimizing overlaps, thereby minimizing the number of lines required to survey a given
area.
