Installing the SAS expander card

In this server, the expander card is supported in the PCIe3 expansion slot 5.
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure:
Make sure that you have the latest firmware for the controllers and the expander card. To download the latest
firmware, see the Hewlett Packard Enterprise website.
Make sure that the server is in 16 SFF drive configuration.
Make sure that you have the following items available:
HPE 12G SAS expander card option kit
Smart Array type-p SR Gen10 controller option with internal ports
T-15 Torx screwdriver
If you are installing a P408i-p Smart Array Gen10 controller, an energy pack option is required.
Note the port numbering on the:
Controller cables
SAS expander card
Controller boards and drive backplanes
Procedure
1.
Power down the server.
2.
Remove all power:
a. Disconnect each power cord from the power source.
b. Disconnect each power cord from the server.
3.
Disconnect all peripheral cables from the server.
4.
Do one of the following:
Server in rack mode: Remove the server from the rack.
Server in tower mode: Position the tower server for hardware configuration.
5.
Remove the access panel.
6.
Remove the PCI air baffle.
7.
Remove the system air baffle.
8.
If you are using a P408i-p Smart Array controller, install the energy pack.
9.
Remove the PCI slot blank:
a. Open the PCI slot retainer.
