4.7 Trailer brake drive

4.7.1 General information

Your tractor can be equipped with an integrated pneumatic drive for trailer brakes or
a hydraulic drive for trailer brakes. General information on the integrated pneumatic drive
for trailer brakes configuration is given in subsection 4.7.2. General information on the hy-
draulic drive for trailer brakes configuration is given in subsection 4.7.3.
ATTENTION: ALL ADJUSTMENT OPERATIONS OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM
AND THE TRAILER BRAKES DRIVE AS WELL AS TROUBLESHOOTING SHALL BE
CARRIED OUT WITH THE ENGINE STOPPED AND THE TRACTOR IN A HORIZONTAL
POSITION, WHICH SHALL BE SECURED BY STOP BLOCKS PUT BEHIND THE
WHEELS AND PREVENTING THE TRACTOR FROM SELF-MOVEMENT!

4.7.2 Integrated pneumatic drive of trailer brakes

The integrated pneumatic drive provides brake control of trailers and implements equipped
with single-wire or double-wire brakes of the pneumatic drive as well as tire inflation. The
diagram of the integrated pneumatic drive is shown in figure 4.7.1.
1 – compressor; 2 – line from the engine inlet manifold; 3 – brake valve (double-wire); 4 –
brake valve (single-wire); 5 – connecting line; 6– feed line; 7, 8, 9 – connecting heads; 10
– control line; 11 - condensate drain valve; 12 – tank; 13 – air bleed valve; 14 - pressure
regulator; 15 – air pressure indicator; 16 – emergency air pressure sensor.
Figure 4.7.1 – Diagram of the integrated pneumatic drive of trailer brakes
While coupling of the trailer with single-wire pneumatic drive, the trailer head is attached to
connecting head 8 (black color) and air flows to the trailer pneumatic drive. When pressing
the brake pedal or engaging the parking brake, compressed air flows out of connecting line
5 through brake valve 4 into the atmosphere.
The air distributor comes into action on the trailer supplying compressed air from the trailer
tanks into brake chambers and the trailer brakes. In case of emergency disconnection of
the trailer, connecting heads are detached, air flows out of the trailer line into the atmos-
phere and the trailer brakes automatically.
