Gripper Auto-Closing System
Lifting arms are equipped with a system that automatically closes the gripper if the operator forgot to
close it. The system automatically closes the gripper at a preset height, preventing collision between
the gripper and the hopper wall.
Also, if the vehicle is parked for a long period of time with the gripper inside the hopper, the gripper
cylinder may leak pressure, causing the gripper to open by itself. As soon as the hydraulic system is
brought back into operation (pump switch ON), the system closes the gripper automatically before
the operator can move the arm.
For this to work, the system acts as though the operator would push the
joystick.
The "auto-closing system" is activated by a limit switch located on the side of the arm (see Figure
10-7). When the gripper passes the auto-closing limit switch, a signal is sent to the ON/OFF valve
coil to close the gripper.
