2-2 Spectrum Analyzer Function Verification
Spectrum Analyzer Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL)
The following test can be used to verify the Displayed Average Noise Level of the MS2723B or MS2724B. This
test is performed using the RMS detection mode, first with preamp On, then with preamp Off.
Required Equipment:
• 50 ohm termination, Anritsu Model 28N50-2
• Spectrum Master: MS2723B or MS2724B
Figure 2-7.
Displayed Average Noise Level – Test Setup
Procedure (Preamp On):
1. Connect the 28N50-2 50 ohm termination to the MS2723B or MS2724B Spectrum Analyzer RF In.
2. Set the MS2723B or MS2724B to Spectrum Analyzer mode and then preset the instrument.
3. Press the Amplitude soft key and set Atten Lvl to 0 dB and Reference Level to –50 dBm.
4. Press the Pre Amp On/Off soft key to turn it On.
5. Press Amplitude | Detection | RMS (a red dot appears on the RMS label).
6. Press the BW soft key and select RBW of 100 kHz.
7. Enter into the MS2723B or MS2724B the Start and Stop frequencies from
Analyzer DANL (Preamp On)" on page
8. Wait until one sweep has been completed.
9. Press the Marker key, and press Peak Search.
10. Record the Marker reading in the "Measured dBm (100 kHz RBW)" column in
Analyzer DANL (Preamp On)" on page
11. Repeat Step

through Step
12. For each measured 100 kHz value in
50 dB. (For example, if the marker shows a value of –110 dBm at 100 kHz RBW, then the calculated
value at 1 Hz RBW is –160 dBm.) Enter the calculated values in
(–110 dBm) – (50 dB) = –160 dBm
