The description configured for an interface on the S2700 helps you identify and memorize the
usage of the interface, which facilitates the management.
Procedure
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view is displayed.
Step 2 Run:
interface interface-type interface-number
The view of a specified interface is displayed.
Step 3 Run:
description description
The description is configured for the interface.

3.2.5 Starting and Shutting Down an Interface

When a physical interface is idle and is not connected to a cable, shut down this interface to
protect the interface against interference. To use a shutdown interface, you need to start the
interface.

l A null interface is always Up and cannot be shut down by command.
l A loopback interface is always Up and cannot be shut down by command.
