Preface

Purpose of the documentation
This documentation supplements the system documentation of the following product series of
distributed I/Os:
• SIMATIC ET 200SP HA distributed I/O
• SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O
The I/O components described extend these distributed I/O systems with the option of
integrating devices located in hazardous areas (intrinsically safe sensors, actuators and HART
field devices) into the system. The associated I/O modules with device protection according to
intrinsic safety "i" offer channel outputs in Zone 0 or 1. For setup, at least one special potential
group must be integrated into the distributed I/O. Such a potential group is referred to as an Ex
module group in the following.
You can find the following information on Ex module groups in this documentation:
• Deployment zones
• General information on components for use in hazardous areas
• System overview
• Installation
• Wiring
• Commissioning
• Service and maintenance
Area of application
The scalable design makes it possible to adapt the expansion to the respective requirements of
the plant.
Basic knowledge required
A basic knowledge of automation technology is required to understand the documentation.
Knowledge of the system documentation of the distributed I/O used:
• SIMATIC ET 200SP HA distributed I/O
• SIMATIC ET 200SP distributed I/O
