4.3 Useful information for use in hazardous areas
Specific application
Keep to the safety and accident prevention regulations applying to specific applications, for
example machine protection guidelines.
Type of protection
The components for the Ex module groups are designed with IP 20 degree of protection and are
intended for installation in a control cabinet.
EMERGENCY STOP devices
EMERGENCY STOP devices according to EN / IEC 60204 must remain active in all operating
modes of the plant or system.
Components for the supply voltage

Excluding hazardous plant states
You need to implement suitable measures to ensure that dangerous operating conditions are
excluded, also in the following situations:
• When the system restarts after a voltage dip or power failure.
• Bus communication starts automatically after a fault.
If necessary, EMERGENCY STOP must be forced!
An uncontrolled or undefined startup must not occur after the EMERGENCY STOP is unlocked.
Protection against outside electrical influences
Observe the following information on protection against electrical effects or faults:
• In plants with distributed I/O, ensure that the system is connected to a protective conductor
with sufficient cross-section for discharge of electromagnetic interference.
• Ensure correct cable routing and installation of the supply, signal and bus cables.
• For signal and bus lines, you must ensure that a wire/cable breakage or a cross-circuit does
not lead to undefined states of the plant or system.
